It has been reported to Harnesslink today (September 20) that the 2021 Hambletonian winner, Captain Corey, has broken a bone in his foot and is done racing for the rest of the year.
The three-year-old son of Googoo Gaagaa, winner of the $1 million Hambletonian Trot and the $300,000 Earl Beale Memorial this year, and has been #1 in the Top Ten Poll the last few weeks.
In 14 lifetime starts over the past two seasons, Captain Corey has ten wins and lifetime earnings of $1,090,333 with a record of 1:51f.
Trained and driver by Ake Svanstedt, the colt is co-owned by Svanstedt with S R F Stable, Knutsson Trotting and the Midnight Sun Partners, all of Florida.
“Yes, unfortunately he has a broken foot,” said Sarah Svanstedt. “The lucky part is is a small line fracture so the prognosis is good. But heās done for the rest of the year. The owners are going to let this sink in and make the decision about this future in the next couple of weeks.”
