Captain Corey was an easy winner for trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt

While not eligible for the $253,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship harness racing final, Hambletonian winner Captain Corey did take advantage of racing in the $50,000 consolation race Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs, winning with ease in 1:51.4.

Trained and driven to victory by Ake Svanstedt, Captain Corey got away in fourth place as stablemate, Fly Light (Dexter Dunn) shot to the early lead with 75-1 long shot Ceffyl DWR (Jacqueline Ingrassia) grabbed the two-hole spot.

Svanstedt sent Captain Corey first-up after the opening quarter mile in :27.4. Captain Corey easily went to the lead and held the field at bay as he went to the half mile in :56 and the three-quarters in 1:24.2.

At that point, Svanstedt let Captain Corey have his head and they trotted away to a five-length romp with Fly Light second and Ceffyl DWR third.

CAPTAIN COREY REPLAY

It was the fourth straight win and fifth triumph of the year for Captain Corey. The son of Googoo Gaagaa was the overwhelming 1/9 favorite and paid $2.10 to win. He is owned by SRF Stable, Knutsson Trotting, Midnight Sun Partners and Ake Svanstedt.

The first race, a $50,000 PASS consolation race for three-year-old pacing colts, saw Somewhereinverona (Somebeachsomewhere) and driver George Napolitano, Jr. grind it out first-over against 1/5 favorite Water Sports Teen (Joe Bongiorno) for the win in 1:50.4. He paid $16.60 to win.
