Captain Nash continued his rampage through the state of Maine top-level pacing classes on Sunday (May 8), discouraging the upper crust set at Bangor Raceway this weekend utilizing a dazzling display of speed before stepping effortlessly clear at the wire to stop the clock in a blazing 1:53.
That was the fastest race time recorded thus far this season on the young Pine Tree harness racing circuit.
Driver Bruce Ranger confidently floated the six-year-old son of Captaintreacherous off the car in the $6,500 feature event, content to allow the competition to claim position through Bangor’s quick arriving first turn, before seemingly engaging warp speed to swoop the group just past the quarter mile marker.
The contest was effectively settled at that point in the mile as the field chased in vain through progressively quickening fractions, unable to mount any meaningful offensive maneuver into the teeth of Captain Nash’s overpowering 55.4 back half which was punctuated by an effortless 27.3 closing panel as he glided five-lengths the best at the wire.
Grand Galop Semalu (Dan Deslandes) mounted a powerful rally once again this week to secure his second consecutive brides maid tally, while David Ingraham painted the perfect picture of patience in engineering a third-place finish with Rocksapatriot after sitting in the trailing position for most of the mile.
The victory, one of three on the card for driver Bruce Ranger, extended Captain Nash’s current win streak out to three in a row for owner Reginald Duguay and trainer Richard Bartlett.
In other Bangor happenings, drivers Gary Mosher and Aaron Hall both registered driving doubles on Sunday, while trainer Benson Merrill added two more wins to extend his meet leading tally.
