For the second straight week, Carbine (Somebeachsomewhere) and harness racing driver Trace Tetrick dominated the $34,000 Open Handicap Pace at Miami Valley Raceway Thursday, Feb. 29.
It was an early battle for control of the lead as Later Dudes (Chris Page), Artatac A (Dan Noble) and Carbine all on the move from the start.
Later Dudes led early and was challenged on the outside by Artatac A, who powered to the lead at the opening quarter in :27.1. Following on the outside in third was Carbine and Tetrick and they powered to take command and lead the field to the half mile in :54.2.
Moving first-over in fifth place at the half mile was the race favorite, Spring Inhis Step A (Tyler Smith), and second-over was Shamwow (Josh Sutton).
Before the three-quarters, Later Dudes pulled the pocket to come after Carbine past the three-quarters in 1:21.3. Carbine held off Later Dudes around the final turn and then down the stretch he opened up on the field and once again won by three and one-quarter lengths, the time 1:50. Later Dudes was second with Artatac A third.
