Having just arrived in the United States, harness racing driver Carter Dalgety from New Zealand will make his pari-mutuel debut Friday (July 18) afternoon at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
Dalgety, 21, hails from Christchurch, NZ and is the son of one of New Zealand’s top trainers, Cran Dalgety, who was the mentor for world champion driver Dexter Dunn.
Back in New Zealand, young Dalgety needed just 550 drives to reach the 100-win mark, and he was delighted to know he got there quicker than his good friend and mentor Dexter Dunn who took 624 drives to achieve his milestone.
The milestone was reached in the best possible way, Carter driving All You Need Is Me (Captaintreacherous) trained by his parents Cran and Chrissie Dalgety, in the $110,000 Group One 2023 Pascoe’s The Jewellers Northern Oaks at Alexandra Park.
On Friday at Harrah’s Philadelphia, Dalgety’s first USA pari-mutuel drive comes in the 10th race pace with Duckies Dynasty (Riverboat King), then the 12th race pace with Never Say Never N (Bettor’s Delight), the 13th race pace with Bizy Beatle (Sportsmaster) and the 15th race pace aboard Handlelikeaporsche (Lazarus N).
