New Zealander Carter Dalgety scored his first pari-mutuel victory after just four harness racing drives in the USA Friday, July 19, at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
The 21-year-old junior driving champion from down under, Carter Dalgety won the 15th race $7,500 pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia with the 11-1 longshot Handlelikeaporsche (Lazarus N) in 1:51.1.
Dalgety, started from post seven with Handlelikeaporsche and was able to get a two-hole trip behind Declan Seelster and driver George Napolitano, Jr. Declan Seelster cut fractions of :26.4, :55 and 1:22.2 with Dalgety sitting right on their backs with Handlelikeaporsche.
As they came off the final turn, Dalgety moved to the outside with Handlelikeaporsche and came after Declan Seelster, catching them at the wire to win by half a length. Handlelikeaporsche paid $25.20 to win.

It was the second win this season for the four-year-old gelding who is trained by fellow New Zealander, Chris Ryder and is co-owned by Ryder with William Ezzo, Robert Mondillo and Barry Spak.
Dalgety, whose father Cran, is a top trainer in New Zealand, says that his mentor in racing is none other than Dexter Dunn.
