The statistical side of harness racing is always a great indicator about who is setting the standard in our industry.
Facts don't lie and they are hard to ignore when they consistently point in one direction.
One interesting set of statistics recently crossed our desk here at Harnesslink and it didn't surprise us in the slightest.
It just reinforced the perception that we had formed over the last few years watching harness racing in North America.
Casie Coleman is a phenomenon in our industry and is setting records that may prove really hard for those following behind to even equal let alone better.
The statistics in question on this occasion were in relation to Casie Coleman and her amazing feat in having a three-year-old male pacer win more than $750,000 in a season for the last five years in a row.
The list below of the five pacers in question is not a bad selection of three year old pacers.
2010 Sportswriter $750,780
2011 Betterthancheddar $771,809
2012 Michaels Power $1,463,912
2013 Vegas Vacation $971,632
2014 McWicked $1,472,937
The previous record in North America for training $750,000 winners in consecutive seasons was three which Casie broke last year.
The overall leader in producing $750,000 winners is Brett Pelling with nine, closely followed by Bill Robinson on eight with Casie on five.
At her present rate it will not be very long before Casie overtakes these two legendary trainers for the top spot on the all time list.
There has only ever been 112 three-year-old pacers who have earned over $750,000 in a season since Hot Hitter first achieved the feat in 1979.
One interesting statistic amongst it all was the country of origin of the trainer of each of the 112 horses who had won $750,000 in a season.
The USA held first place with 54 followed closely by Canada with 44, New Zealand with 13 and Sweden with one.
At her present rate of success Casie may square the ledger on her own before she steps back from the sport she loves.
