Monticello, NY— Monticello Raceway’s Tuesday (Mar. 5) card was dominated by harness racing driver Gregory Merton, but Michael Merton and Caviart Reagan (Bettor’s Delight) wouldn’t let him take the $6,500 Open pace.
Just Wave Goodbye (Thomas Merton) took the early lead, but was quickly overcome by Hopnroll Heaven (Gregory Merton) from the outside. Trevor’s Ace (Fern Paquet Jr) was racing in third as they went by the first quarter mile in :27.3.
From the outside, Caviart Reagan rushed to challenge Just Wave Goodbye for second as they came to the half mile in :57. At the three-quarter mile in 1:26.2, Hopnroll Heaven was holding on to the lead, with Caviart Reagan closing in from second. Just Wave Goodbye and Trevor’s Ace were in a battle for third.
As they turned for home, Caviart Reagan moved to the front to capture the victory in 1:56.4. Hopnroll Heaven followed a length behind in second and Trevor’s Ace finished in third.

Caviart Reagan is a 10-year-old gelding owned by Jim Mc Donald and trained by Edgar Clarke. He paid $4.00 to win.
Gregory Merton drove five winners and Elisha Lafreniere got a training double.
