Saratoga Raceway played host Monday (June 20) to two harness racing divisions of the $156,000 New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies and both divisions were won by daughters of Chapter Seven, both were driven by Brian Sears and both were trained by Marcus Melander.
In the 5th race for a purse of $78,700 it was Canterbury Hanover and driver Brian Sears trading leads with J Wow (Crazy Wow) and driver Jim Marohn, Jr. through the opening quarter mile in :29.
With J Wow taking command after the first quarter, it was Canterbury Hanoverās turn to take over control, as she came first-over and cleared after the half mile in :59.3.
With no one really able to challenge the leaders, Canterbury Hanover tripped the three-quarters in 1:29.4 and then proceeded to pull away from the field to win by three and one-half lengths in 1:59. J Wow was second with All The Rage (E L Titan) third.
CANTERBURY HANOVER REPLAY
It was the first pari-mutuel start for Canterbury Hanover. She is owned by Holly Lane Stud East of Florida and paid $3.90 to win as the wagering favorite.
In the 7th race $77,300 second NYSS division, it was Kayleigh S and Sears who left right out of the gate (post 4) and opened up on the field to the first quarter in :29.3.
With Bourbon On Ice (Chapter Seven) and driver John Stark, Jr. sitting in second, Kayleigh S led to the half mile in 1:00.1 and then Gigi Hanover (Chapter Seven) came first-over over and gave live outside cover to U Gurl (E L Titan) and driver Jordan Stratton to the three-quarters in 1:31.
At the top of the stretch, Kayleigh A still held the field at bay and crossed the finish wire up by one and one-quarter lengths in 2:00.4. U Gurl was third placed second with Gigi Hanover fourth placed third. Bourbon On Ice was second but placed fourth by the judges.
KAYLEIGH A REPLAY
It was again the first pari-mutuel start for Kayleigh S. She is owned by Courant, Inc. of Florida and paid $5.80 to win.
