Confederate (Sweet Lou), the #1 rated harness racing horse in North America headlines the $557,250 Matron Stakes for three-year-old trotters and pacers at Bally’s Dover on Thursday (Nov. 9).
The Brett Pelling trained colt, bred and owned by Diamond Creek Racing, will be driven by Tim Tetrick from post seven in going for his 11th straight win this year. Overall Confederate has 12 wins in 13 starts. In his last outing he won the $600,000 Breeders Crown in 1:48 over a sloppy, rain-soaked track and being parked first-over. Confederate currently has impressive earnings in 2023 of $1,544,929.
His main rivals will be Cannibal, Ken Hanover and El Rey.
The Matron Stakes kick off in the 6th race for three-year-old trotting fillies for a purse of $141,450. Featured are Call Me Goo (Googoo Gaagaa) in post seven for driver Dexter Dunn. In her last start she won the $115,000 Crossroads at Hoosier Park and sports an impressive 11 wins this year for trainer Jason Skinner.
Another return winner in the field is Angelpedia (Cantab Hall) from post 3 for driver Joe Bongiorno. She is coming off a 1:53.4 score at Harrah’s Philadelphia in the $56,350 Liberty Series, her fifth win on the year.
The trotting colts will go at it in the $127,400 8th race Matron Stakes. Khaosan Road (International Moni) goes for his third straight win for trainer-driver Ake Svanstedt. He has earned nearly $300,000 this year on the strength of five wins. In his last start he won a division of the Simpson Stakes at Pocono Downs in 1:54.4 and the start prior took his lifetime mark of 1:52.3.
His main competitors will be return winner Calderone (post 1), Herodotus (post 2) and The Gruffalo (post 7).
The 10th race $117,550 Matron Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies features millionairess Twin B Joe Fresh (Roll With Joe) from post four. She sports nine wins this year while racing against the best f illies in the nation and has a record of 1:48.2. Dexter Dunn, who is a co-owner, will be driving.
Other contenders include Zanatta (post 2), Always B Naughty (post 6) who is also a nine-race winner and Rec Time (post 1).
First race post time is 4:30 pm.
