In a classic stretch battle to the wire, Covered Bridge (American Ideal) with harness racing driver Jordan Stratton at the lines, were barely able to hold off The Wild Card and driver George Brennan, in winning the $39,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway Monday, October 17, 2022.
The 8th race feature began with Buddy Hill (Matt Kakaley) going right to the lead from the rail and cutting the mile to the opening quarter in :27 over the good track that feature a one-second allowance. The Wild Card was sitting the pocket-trip.
Going to the half mile, race favorite Covered Bridge came first-over for Stratton with Carlisomo (Braxten Boyd) following second-over as Buddy Hill led the field to the half mile marker in :57.
By the three quarters in 1:24.3, Covered Bridge had collared Buddy Hill to take the lead on the final turn and then it was The Wild Card and Brennan coming after Coverage Bridge and those two battled right to the wire with Covered Bridge winning by a neck in 1:53. Buddy Hill was third.
