Able to make the most of early cover, Yonkers invader Credit Con (Credit Winner) and harness racing driver Jim Marohn, Jr. were able to grind it out against Allindotime in winning the $12,000 Preferred Handicap Trot Friday (Dec. 30) at Freehold Raceway.
The 9th race feature saw Gruden (Eric Abbatiello) take early command of the race with Campbellini (Bryson Dunning) sitting the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :28.2.
Then it was Allindotime and driver Austin Siegelman coming first-over, giving second-over cover to Credit Con as they raced past the half mile marker in :59.
Allindotime was able to clear to the lead by the backstretch and that left Credit Con with no cover, but the four-year-old gelding kept on motoring into second place by the three-quarters in 1:27.4.
As they started down the stretch, Credit Con was able to trot his way past Allindotime to win by a half a length in 1:57.2. Dot Dot Dot Dash (Vincent Ginsburg) was third.
CREDIT CON REPLAY
It was the second straight win and fifth victory on the year for Credit Con. He is trained by Jenn Bongiorno for owner Ben Mondello of NY and paid $3.80 to win as the wagering favorite.
