Plainville, MA — Driver Mitchell Cushing stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (Nov. 11) afternoon, including a natural hat trick in races six, seven and eight.

Cushing’s wins included Sweet Nan (1:57, $8.00), Nice Guy Eddie (1:58.2, $9.60), Quite Beachy (1:55.2, $11.00) and Alonso (1:59.2, $9.00). From his six scheduled drives, Cushing never missed the board as he also registered one second and one third, giving him a sparkling .815 UDR for the afternoon.
Owners/breeders Earl and Kathy Beaman watched their trotter Halifax get his first lifetime win on Tuesday after he took the $12,500 Maiden trot in 1:58.4 at The Ridge. Driven by Jim Hardy and trained by Jolene Andrews, Halifax ($9.60) just finished competing in the Massachusetts Breeders Stakes last week.
But the win today was only one of three for the Beaman’s this week at Plainridge, because they also watched their other trotters, Poppy Wow and Pepper Wow, win their respective races on Monday (Nov. 10) and all three horses are Massachusetts-bred, out of the Beaman’s foundation broodmare, Tori Hall.
HALIFAX REPLAY
Channa Gorton was the leading trainer on Tuesday, winning two races during the afternoon.
The Jackpot Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta was hit in the day’s ninth race. The single unique combination of 3-4-2-7-5 returned $2,982.62 for the 20-cent wager.
Live racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Thursday (Nov. 13) at 1 p.m.
