WASHINGTON, PA, June 8, 2022 — By scoring five winners Wednesday at the Meadows, harness racing driver Dave Palone moved within 25 wins of scoring his 20,000th career win, a feat no one in the history of horse racing has ever achieved.
With five-win days like Wednesday, Palone should achieve the world milestone later this month.
Hammered down to 1-2 off a major class drop, Tonianne (Somebeachsomewhere) justified bettors’ faith as she rolled to an easy victory in Wednesday’s feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $9,500 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace.
Tonianne powered to the point at the quarter and enjoyed a 29.1 second-panel breather courtesy winning driver Brady Brown. That was all the 4-year-old mare needed to draw off to a 3-length victory over Diamond Official in 1:53.1. Ellasen finished fourth-placed-third.
Dane Snyder trains Tonianne, who lifted her career bankroll to $142,552, for Linwood Higgins.
Elsewhere on Wednesday’s card, Little Lady J became the first 2-year-old winner at The Meadows this year when she scored for Hunter Myers and owner/trainer Mitchell York. The daughter of A Rocknroll Dance-Monet’s Lilly moved first over from third to triumph in 1:58 in her pari-mutuel debut.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 11-race program features a pair of carryovers — $13,569.55 in the Jackpot Pick 5 (race 4), $2,204.14 in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 PM.
