Dayton Raceway opened for the 2022 harness racing season Tuesday (Sep. 27) with a $25,000 Open Trot feature that saw the race favorite live up to expectations.
The 10th race saw 55-1 Magic Night and driver Kayne Kauffman take the early lead with Magical Muscle Man (Dan Noble) grabbing the two-hole seat as the field raced single file to the first quarter in :27.4.
By the half mile, Magic Night was comfortably in front in :57.3 as Fanatic (Trevor Smith) started up first-over and that flushed the race favorite, Mission Accepted (Manofmanymissions) and driver Chris Page, first-over from third place.
By the three-quarters in 1:26.4, Magic Night was still in the lead but Mission Accepted trotted right on by him to take command and by the top of the stretch he was not going to get caught, winning by one and one-half lengths in 1:56.4. Big City Pearl (Atlee Bender) was second with Fanatic third.
MISSION ACCEPTED REPLAY
It was the second win this year for Mission Accepted. The seven-year-old stallion is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing Stable, LLC, Knox Services, Inc, David Wills and Weaver Bruscemi, LLC. He was bred by Knox Services, Inc. and paid $2.40 to win.
