Bangor, Maine … On a day when six of ten winning favorites were key ingredients in concocting Bangor Raceway’s blue plate special, harness racing driver Dan Deslandes dished up both the shortest and longest prices on Wednesday’s (Nov. 1) menu while scoring three wins during the “early bird” late afternoon seating.
Justcallmemimi (Deuce Seelster-Justcallmerosie, 2:01.2-$5.00) provided the appetizer, touring the oval in snazzy gate-to-wire fashion for Deslandes while scoring her first career win from 27 lifetime starts. Making her second start absent tough Maine Sire Stakes competition, the three-year-old was also making just her second appearance from the Mark Harris roster who trains the new acquisition for owner Gail Harris, his wife.
The main course was served up sweet rather than savory by Deslandes as Chocolate Biskit (Village Jiffy, 1:58.4-$3.40) fixed his gaze on a determined first-over grind. Trained by the meet’s leading conditioner, Jeff Deslandes, for his son, owner/driver Dan Deslandes, the ten-year-old arrived at the banquet table a neck in front while securing the seventh win of his comeback season.
The Dan Deslandes dessert offering was filled with holiday whimsy as Easteriffic (Rock N Roll Heaven, 2:01.4-$19.80) drafted second-over to eke out the tightest win of the card. The eight-year-old scored her fifth win of the season by a scant head for owner/trainer Ryan Berry while also serving up the most generous win ticket of the session.
Deslandes’ three wins enhanced his quest to maintain control of the top spot of the the Bangor Raceway leaderboard with three racing days remaining at the Queen City meeting. The 31-year-old teamster now boasts 55 seasonal scores at Bangor, seven more than his closest rival, perennial powerhouse, Heath Campbell.
In other Bangor news, drivers Andy Harrington, Drew Campbell, and Heath Campbell all enjoyed driving doubles on the program, while trainers Mark Harris and Sara Harrington each conditioned a pair of winners on the card.
Live harness racing will be featured on Saturday morning (November 4) with post time slated for 11:15 a.m (EDT), leading up to Bangor’s closing performance of the 2023 season on Wednesday (November 8) scheduled at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
