Dewey Arnold (Deweycheatumnhowe) has been a winning machine over the years but the harness racing trotting star was a beaten favorite in each of his first three starts of 2023 heading into his Monday (Feb. 13) try in the Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
On Monday, the Dave Dewhurst-trained star high-stepper was again the betting publicās top choice as he drew post position five in the six-horse feature. Jimmy Devaux marched Dewey Arnold out to the early lead, a lead the classy five-year-old would never relinquish.
Dewey Arnold went coast-to-coast in 1:56.4 in the $17,000 Open besting last weekās feature winner Big Box Hanover decisively in what was a $13 exacta. Longshot Grinder (Andover Hall), the runner-up in the first Open Trot of the season, finished third on Monday to complete a $67.50 triple.
Dewey Arnold is now just a few thousand shy of the $400,000 mark in career earnings after what was his 26st lifetime victory in just 61 starts. Dewey Arnold is co-owned by his trainer Dave Dewhurst and Philip Hale of New York.
