Diamond Head (Somebeachsomewhere) was feeling his oats for sure at Monticello Raceway Tuesday (March 21) as the six-year-old harness racing stallion wired the field in winning the Open II Pace.
Starting from post two in the 4th race feature, driver Justin Huckabone sent Diamond Head right to the early lead with Nui Ba Den N (Bruce Aldrick, Jr.) sitting the pocket trip as they went by the opening quarter mile in :27.4.
As Diamond Head led the field past the half mile marker in :56.4, moving first-over was the race favorite, Sauvignon Bluechip (Joe Chindano, Jr.) with Trevorās Ace (Brandon Parker) following second-over.
Going down the backstretch, Diamond Head was being challenged by Sauvignon Bluechip on the outside at the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
On the final turn it seemed that Diamond Head found another gear and started to pull away from the field, going on to win by three open lengths in 1:54.2. Still Thirsty (Fern Paquet, Jr.) was second with Nu Ba Den N third.
