Discus Hanover (Credit Winner) and harness racing driver Leon Bailey won the featured $9,200 Open 1 Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (September 9).
Star Track Hanover (Steeven Genois) charged right to the front as Discus Hanover ($6.00) followed in the two-hole.Ā Ā Star Track Hanover led to the quarter in :27.3.Ā Ā He used a :29.1 second quarter to hit the half first in :56.4.Ā Ā The gelding cruised to three-quarters in 1:25.1.
As they made the turn for home Discus Hanover popped out of the pocket and challenged Star Track Hanover for the lead.Ā Ā The two battled all the way down the stretch as Discus Hanover surged on by to win in a lifetime equaling best of 1:53.4.Ā Ā Lepanto (Jeff Sorenson) came up to finish second.Ā Ā Star Track Hanover had to settle for third.
Discus Hanover is a 5-year-old owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.Ā Ā It was his fourth win this season.Ā Ā He now has 32 career victories.

Bailey and Dewhurst combined for a double.Ā Ā They got their other win with Wyoming Cowboy ($7.30).Ā Ā Driver Frank Affrunti and trainer George Ducharme also combined for a double.Ā Ā They got their wins with Rooster Bennett ($2.20), and Isaac ($5.70).
