Ocean City, MD – Ocean Downs is hosting the sophomore Maryland Standardbred Fund (foaled) harness racing stakes this week at the ocean oval.
On Monday August 1stĀ Down The Pike Mike (Credit Winner) lived up to his name in his gate to wire victory over fast closing Jas Bluestone (Anders Bluestone) who circled the field, coming within a half-length of the winner at the wire in the $26,175 division for trotting colts and geldings. Time of the mile was 2:00.3.
Down The Pike Mike picked up his third win for owners Scott Leaf, Michael Ternisky and Gerald Fielding and trainer Erv Miller.
Jonathan Roberts was in the bike for the 2:00.3 mile, Winbak Farm is the breeder.
Race 6 was the $28,675 division for the three-year-old filly pacers. Reinsman Victor Kirby sent Bank The Win (Roddyās Bags Again) flying out of the gate, finally getting to the lead passed the quarter in a speedy 27.3.
The pair were able to hold off Must Be Nice (Betting Line) by a half-length in the 1:54.3 with a closing quarter in 29.2. Kirby is also a co-owner with Bryan Truitt and Bryan Truitt Jr. Truitt also trains the Winbak Farm bred filly.
The Maryland stakes season for the three-year-old concludes on Wednesday Aug 3rdĀ with one division for filly trotters and two splits for the colt and gelding pacers.
