The Sunday night (September 1) program at Running Aces featured lots of big harness racing performances and exciting finishes but topping the charts for the night was another huge winning effort from star sophomore trotter DP Freedoms Chrome (For You Almostfree) and driver James Gould.
Favored at 1-20 in the $17,500 colts & geldings division of the Minnesota-sired event, the pair started from their assigned outside post in the eight horse contest and floated out wide around the first turn while making their way toward the front of the field and leaders Wherever Rio Goes (Sean Smithpeters) and Finale Jetta (Brady Jenson) through the tepid opening fraction of :30.1.
DP Freedoms Chrome took the lead just after the three-eighths pole and was settled on top as they rounded the half in :59.3 with Wherever Rio Goes relegated to second and Finale Jetta back to third.
Down the backside the favorite began to open up on his rivals before registering three panels in 1:27.4 with a seven length cushion.
In the lane it was strictly the DP Freedoms Chrome ($2.10) show and he coasted home a wrapped-up winner by 9-1/2 lengths in 1:57.3 for his twelfth straight win at Running Aces spanning the last two seasons. He has never lost a race at Running Aces and is now 19-for-20 in his career, while depositing $151,450 into the bank.
Finale Jetta claimed second and Insurrectionist (Jeff Hunt) rallied late for third money.
DP FREEDOMS CHROME REPLAY
Elvin Zimmerman is the winning trainer for owner Aimes Racing. David Bontrager was the breeder of DP Freedoms Chrome.
Baby Flash (Southwind Flash) strutted her stuff in the $17,500 sophomore filly trot with an impressive gate-to-wire effort by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:59 over Al-Mar Puredelight (James Kennedy) and Piggly Wiggly (Nick Roland).
Mooney Svendsen was the winning pilot for owner/trainer Rick Huffman and additional owners Keith Wilson and Brenda Lovetinsky.
BABY FLASH REPLAY
Baby Flash now shows five wins on the season and 18 career wins, with earnings of $144,414.
Majestic J (Walner) was the star of the $15,500 Open handicap trot, making a big early move around the first turn for trainer/driver Elson Miller to challenge for and then take the lead just past the quarter mile, while Warrawee Whisper (Brady Jenson) subsequently landed in the pocket. Those two remained the leaders throughout and Bringoverthemoney (Dean Magee) closed from midfield to pick up third in the 1:55 mile.
MAJESTIC J REPLAY
It was the third win in the last four starts and sixth win of the season for Majestic J ($6.20) who also eclipsed the $300,000 mark in career earnings on Sunday.
Stephanie Longo is the winning owner.
Driver Brady Jenson led the program with 4 wins while trainer Edwin Quevedo posted three wins and Justin Anfinson also had a training double.
Live Racing returns to Running Aces on Tuesday night (September 3) for a 9-race program that will get underway at 7 p.m. (CDT).
