Dragon Said increased his win streak to six straight as he made two moves to win the feature pace on Tuesday at a rain-soaked Yonkers Raceway.
Gardys Legacy A (Jason Bartlett), taking off from post five, sailed by Dragon Said going into the first turn for an early advantage. Joe Bongiorno immediately ordered Dragon Said to capture the lead, which the gelding did before the first quarter mile marker in :28.2.
Bongiorno controlled the tempo to :57.3 and 1:26.1 middle splits with little pressure until Diamondbeach (Austin Siegelman) rolled up first-over on the backstretch. Dragon Said put him away before entering the stretch and outlasted a charge from the resurgent Gardys Legacy A to secure the victory in 1:54.2.
DRAGON SAID REPLAY
Gardys Legacy A needed to cover a half-length more to improve on his place finish. Quagmire Bluechip (Jordan Stratton) finished third. The winner returned $3.40.
Dragon Said, a four-year-old son of Well Said, has now won six consecutive starts since entering the Jennifer Bongiorno barn. He entered the Tuesday race following a 1:50 qualifier at Gaitway Farm on Jun. 14 after a layoff of more than two months. He has won nine times and earned more than $95,000 in 34 career outings. Robert Devine of Freehold took ownership of the horse in February.
Yonkers Raceway races again on Wednesday, Jun. 23. The 12-race card will start at 7:15 p.m. EDT.
