With a gusty, first-over effort and a :27 second last quarter mile, Drama Act (Well Said) not only captured the $36,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace Friday (March 10) at Yonkers Raceway but established herself as one of the harness racing favorites for the upcoming Blue Chip Matchmaker Series.
Starting from post two, race favorite Drama Act and driver George Brennan got away in third place as Racine Bell (Jason Bartlett) cut the mile with Easy To Please (Jordan Stratton) sitting the two-hole trip.
They went by the first quarter in :28.2 over a track labeled good with a one-second allowance. The field raced single file through the half mile in :58 and into the backstretch before Giaās Surreal (Braxten Boyd) moved first-over from fifth place and that flushed Brennan first-over with Drama Act.
As the past the three-quarters in 1:26, Drama Act had collared Racine Bell and once they straighten out in the stretch, Racine Bell dug in to take back command, but Brennan urged Drama Act on and they just nipped Racine Bell at the wire by a nose in 1:53.1. Easy To Please was third.
DRAMA ACT REPLAY
It was the second straight win and third triumph in four starts for Drama Act. The six-year-old mare is trained by Ron Burke for The OK Corral and she paid $3.90 to win.
All of the starters in the race are eligible for the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series that begins on Monday, March 20.
