Harness racing driver Daniel Dube made the most of starting from the rail harness racing post position with Stormy Kromer (Dejarmbro), going down the pike and not looking back as they led from start to finish in the Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway Friday (Sept. 16).
The 7th race $39,000 feature saw little movement from the short field of only five starters as Dube sent Stormy Kromer right to the front. Mississippi Storm (Brent Holland) was able to get the two-hole trip as they passed the first quarter in :28.1 and the half mile in :58.
By the backstretch, race favorite Amigo Volo and driver Jason Bartlett came first-over before the three-quarters in 1:26.3 and tried to make a race out of it.
Nearly collaring Stormy Kromer by the top of the stretch, Amigo Volo was only second best as Stormy Kromer held him off and won by a half a length in 1:54.2. Mississippi Storm was third.
STORMY KROMER REPLAY
It was the second straight win and eighth of the year for Stormy Kromer. He is trained by Paul Stafford for owner Thomas Ceraso, Jr. and paid $9.00 to win.
