Dublin Valley Farm has worked hard to establish itself as one of the Buckeye State’s premier harness racing breeding facilities, as evidenced by its recent success at the Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale, held Oct. 11 at Champions Center in Springfield, Ohio.
Owned by Robert Hershberger, Dublin Valley brought in the most dollars ($661,010) from 46 entrants, far more than any other consignor at the sale, which offered 236 yearlings for inspection and purchase.
“We were very pleased with the outcome of our consignment and the results,” said Dublin Valley’s Joe Yoder. “We were fortunate to have one of two sale toppers who brought $50,000.”
Dublin Valley’s Little Miss Jo (Hip No. 225), a bay filly by Long Tom, brought the gavel down for $50,000, as did Rose Run Farm’s Rose Run Ashton (Hip No. 29), a daughter of Uncle Peter.
“Little Miss Jo has a tremendous brother in Tennessee Tom, a 2-year-old who is racing very well,” Yoder explained. “This filly has very nice confirmation and comes from a super maternal family.”
Tennessee Tom 2, 1:55.1f ($456,350), who races for, and is owned by Burke Racing Stable, is a full brother to Little Miss Joe, and both are out of the Muscle Massive mare Missive 4, 1:55f ($156,353). Tennessee Tom had captured the $300,000 Ohio Sires Stakes (OSS) Championship on Sept. 9 at Scioto Down along with multiple OSS Legs, and more recently was second in the $740,000 Mohawk Million at Woodbine on Sept. 23, clocked in 1:54.4.
Valotte, a Volstead filly, brought $44,000 as Hip No. 156 under the Dublin Valley consignment. She is the ninth foal out of the Hey Grey Day mare Feel The Joy ($5,571) and has half-siblings in That Magic Feeling (by MVP) 3, 2:02.2h ($25,080); Watch My Brass (by MVP) 3, 2:03.1h ($19,460); Passionate Gold (by Master Glide) 3, 2:01.3h ($19,129); and Imperial Spur (by Pegasus Spur) 5, 1:59.2 ($18,208).
Another Dublin Valley consignee, Brink Street, Hip No. 206, brought $40,000. This daughter by Long Tom is the first foal out of the Cantab Hall mare Lucky Irish Babe ($5,375). Sudsnritz (What The Hill), Hip No. 116, brought the gavel down at $30,000. She is the second foal out of her unraced Chapter Seven dam Bubblesnritz and is a half-sister to the sophomore filly Crazy Ritz (Crazy Wow) 3, 1:55.2f ($54,882).
Luckstarfrommars, who brought $26,000 as Hip No. 96, is a son of Triumphant Caviar, and the third foal out of the Steeler Spur mare Ann-E Oaks 3, 1:59h ($46,140).
“This colt was big, good-looking, and correct,” Yoder stated. “He might be the sleeper of the sale.”
Long N Lean, a bay Long Tom youngster who sold as Hip No. 4, brought $26,000 for Dublin Valley. He is the first foal out of the lightly raced Credit Winner mare Petite Vixen, whose lineage includes a healthy dose of Super Bowl 3, 1:56.2 ($601,006) bloodlines on both sides of her pedigree.
Hip No. 83, christened Spike, is a brown son of Marseille, who brought the hammer down at $24,000. He is another first foal out of a Cantab Hall mare, A Ray Of Sunshine 3, 1:59.2 f ($8,452), whose pedigree is wrought with speed, and powerful, old pedigrees such as Super Bowl, Speedy Crown 3, 1:57.1 ($545,495), and Noble Victory 4, 1:55.3 ($522,391).
