Monticello, NY— E R Shane (Swan For All, Bruce Aldrich Jr) won the $6,500 harness racing Open trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 29).
American Jj (Michael D Miller) took the early lead but was quickly overcome by Keystone Blade (Joseph Chindano Jr) and Raceace (Alan Schwartz). As they reached the first quarter mile in :28.4, Raceace was the leader, followed by Keystone Blade in second and American Jj in third.
As they came by the stands for the first time, E R Shane started to rush up from the back of the pack. As they passed the half mile in :59, Raceace was holding on to the lead, with E R Shane in second and Keystone Blade in third.
Moving around the clubhouse turn, Raceace led the way, followed by E R Shane on the outside in second and pocket trip Keystone Blade was racing in third. Chip Chip Conway (Jim Taggart Jr) was on the outside second over racing in fourth as they came to the three-quarter mile in 1:29.1.
At the top of the stretch, E R Shane stole the lead, with Chip Chip Conway moving up from the outside. E R Shane crossed the wire first in 1:59.3, one quarter length ahead of Chip Chip Conway. Raceace finished in third.

E R Shane is a 9-year-old gelding trained by Laura Aldrich and owned by Bruce Aldrich Jr. He paid $7.60 to win.
Bruce Aldrich Jr and Michael Merton had driving doubles. Laura Aldrich and Keith Haase had training doubles.
