Carbine (Somebeachsomewhere) has ten harness racing starts this year and has won five of them, including Thursday’s (April 4) $34,000 Open Handicap Pace at Miami Valley Raceway.
Carbine seems to do his best when on the lead, All five of his losses were races he did not get to the early lead. All five wins were when he got to the front by the opening quarter mile.
And it was the front end where Carbine and driver Trace Tetrick went for Thursday, despite starting from post seven on a good track with a one second allowance.
They were able to make the lead with ease and led to the opening quarter mile in :27.2. Act Fast (Chris Page) grabbed the two-hole trip.
By the half mile in :55.1, Carbine was comfortable on the lead as Universal (Jeremy Smith) started up first-over with Stars Align A (Trevor Smith) second-over.
With Universal not gaining on Carbine, the trailers, Stars Align A and Betterrock (Sam Widger) swept three-wide at the three-quarters in 1:23. Carbine had held the field at bay throughout the mile and still had some left in the tank, winning with ease over the pocket-sitting Act Fast by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:51.1. Dontbothermenone N (Kayne Kauffman).
