It was as easy as point and shoot for harness racing driver Chris Page as he sent Caviar Gold (Triumphant Caviar) right to the front and never looked back in capturing the $34,000 Open Trot Monday (April 29) at Miami Valley Raceway.
Leaving from post five, Page put Caviar Gold right on the early lead with Scorecard Dan (Sam Widger) sitting the pocket seat as they went by the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
Going to the half mile, Wildfire Seelster (Jeremy Smith) came first-over and gave live second-over cover to Sandis Commando L (Hank Le Van) to the half mile in :57.3.
Race favorite Caviar Gold continued to lead the way in the backstretch as Wildfire Seelster was gaining ground slowly on the outside by the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Once they reached the top of the stretch, Caviar Gold was still in command and held the field at bay all the way to the finish wire, winning by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:52.4. The pocket-sitting Scorecard Dan held for second with Sandis Commando L third.
CAVIAR GOLD REPLAY
It was the third win on the season for Caviar Gold. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Chris Beaver, who also bred the mare and co-owns with Bill Manes, Leo Fleming and Steven Zeehandelar, paying $2.80 to win.
Sam Widger led all drivers with four winners on the day.
