Columbus, OH – Total wagering on U.S. harness races during the second quarter of 2022 from April 1 through June 30 decreased by 14.67% from $486,789,434 in 2021 to $415.387,374 this year.
However, purses during the second quarter showed a significant increase of 17.31%. From April through June, $116,494,120 was distributed in purses compared to $99,304,965 last year, an increase of $17,189,155.
Average wagering per race decreased by 36.95% from $69,412 to $43,762. Wagering per betting interest was also down during the second quarter by 11.19% at $5,716 compared to $6,436 in 2021.
The number of race days was essentially the same with one less (851) than the 852 last year and field size was down by 2.66% from 7.88 in 2021 to 7.67 this year.
