Northfield, Ohio–Eddie Miller and Bold Strategy made a laugher out of the $7,500 Great Lake Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) trot tonight (May 5) at Northfield Park when they wired the field and cruised to an oh-so-easy 9-length harness racing victory in 1:55.3.
Sent off as the 2-5 favorite in the 8-horse field, Bold Strategy returned $2.80 for the win.
When the wings of the mobile gate folded Miller sent the big Break The Bank K 5-year-old gelding to the front from the pole position and they led a parked-out Forever Jesse (Floyd Rhodes) by the quarter in :27.4.
Bold Strategy was too much for his competition and he opened three lengths on the field as he passed the half in :56.1. At the three quarters in 1:24.3 the lead was opened to 8-lengths and when they rounded the final turn Lauren Harmon and Emerald Chip had overtaken Forever Jesse and they were in second place. But there was no catching Bold Strategy as he zipped home a 9-length winner in 1:55.3. Emerald Chip was second best and So Wishful (Larry Ferrari) rallied to garner the show dough.
The winner is owned by Rebecca Sugg, Watson Harness Racing, and Mary Stucky and trained by Eddie Miller.
