Even with getting parked first-over going to the early lead, Energetic Hanover (Captaintreacherous) and harness racing driver Jason Barlett still hung game to the wire in capturing the $35,000 Invitational Pace Monday (May 27) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 4th race feature saw Boiling Oar (Matt Kakaley) sting Energetic Hanover to an opening quarter mile in :26.4 before taking the two-hole seat behind the race favorite.
Energetic Hanover then got a breather, going to the half mile in :56.2. Then in the backstretch it was Big Gulp (Jordan Stratton) coming first-over with Whats Stanley Got A (George Brennan) second-over going by the three-quarters in 1:24.2.
Around the final turn and down the stretch Energetic Hanover held his ground right down to the finish line, winning by a half a length in 1:51.1 over Boiling Oar. Big Gulp was third.
ENERGETIC HANOVER REPLAY
It was the fifth win on the season for Energetic Hanover. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Tony Alagna for owner and former NBA and college basketball star Sam Bowie. He paid $3.30 to win.
