Batavia, NY — On a night where weather conditions could only be described as off-putting, Face The Shadows (Shadow Play) made her one move count as she won the featured $9,000 Class A-AA pace for harness racing fillies and mares at Batavia Downs on Wednesday (Nov. 5) evening.

When the gate released the girls over the track rated “sloppy”, the field advanced in single file fashion with Major Megan (Jim McNeight Jr.) leading the way as Face The Shadows (Kevin Cummings) was drafting along third. After the group reached the quarter in :29 and the half in :59.2, Face The Shadows was put into play first-over in turn three and made her way alongside Major Megan at three-quarters. As they moved around the final bend, Face The Shadows slowly forged ahead and by the top of the lane she was securely in front. Face The Shadows then paced to the line while holding off both Major Megan and Rightfully Mine by 2-¼ lengths to win in 1:58.

FACE THE SHADOWS REPLAY

Face The Shadows ($6.10) is owned by El Dorado Stables and Mike Torcello and trained by Sam Smith.

Drivers Kevin Cummings, Joe Chindano Jr. and Denny Bucceri and trainer Dave Weston all scored two wins apiece on Wednesday.

The 12th and final race of the evening was cancelled due to a power outage.

Live racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Friday (Nov. 7) with post time at 6:00 p.m.

Free full card past performance programs for every live card of racing at Batavia can always be downloaded at The Downs’ website (bataviadownsgaming.com) under the “Live Racing” tab. Then you can watch all the races live as they happen for free on the Batavia Downs YouTube page.
