Fair Island Farm’s Art Zubrod and Leah Cheverie, sponsors of the Caretaker of the Year Award in conjunction with
the U.S. Harness Writers Association, are proud to announce that beginning immediately, the Fair Island Farm Caretaker of the Year recipient will be rewarded with a cash prize of $2,500.
That means that when Henry Cano of the Ake Svanstedt Stable, who was named the 2021 Fair Island Farm Caretaker of the Year, steps to the podium on Sunday night (Feb. 20) at the U.S. Harness Writers annual Dan Patch Awards banquet at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Fla., to accept his award, he will have a surprise waiting for him as the earlier announced offering was $1,000.
In addition to the $2,500, the Fair Island Farm Caretaker of the Year receives transportation costs to the Dan Patch Awards banquet and a two-night stay at Rosen Shingle Creek, as well as two complimentary dinner tickets and a trophy.
“Leah and I are very pleased to be able to do a small part to honor what is maybe the most important part of the industry right now: Caretakers,” said Zubrod. “They are the backbone of this industry and to be able to reward them is something very special to us.”
