Following two successful events, the Peter Grandich and Company (PGC) Fall Series at Freehold Raceway will conclude on Saturday with a race to benefit Toys for Tots. Special guests this weekend will be Bruce Driver and Grant Marshall, who both won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils.

“Having first visited in the late 70s as a racing fan, and then as a racehorse owner, Freehold Raceway has provided me and so many others with what has been known for decades as the Afternoon Delight,” said Grandich. “The ability to help others while enjoying the sport of harness racing is a true blessing for my wife and me.”

In the PGC sponsored Toys for Tots Race on Saturday, Freehold Raceway will be collecting monetary and toy donations for children in need. Despite the pandemic, Marine Toys for Tots distributed more than 20.2 million toys, books and games to over 7.3 million less fortunate children during its 2020 campaign, and the organization now looks to eclipse that number this year. Bruce Driver and Grant Marshall, both of whom are Stanley Cup Champions and former New Jersey Devils, will join PGC at the track for the day. Additionally, they will both be present in the Winners Circle for the presentation to the winning horse and driver.

PGC most recently sponsored a Turkey Trot Race this past Friday on the day after Thanksgiving. Together with Freehold Raceway, monetary and food donations were collected to benefit Freehold Area Open Door, an interfaith agency that has been providing emergency food, funding, mentoring and scholarships to those in need from the Freehold area since 1987.

New York Rangers great, Ron Greschner, along with New Jersey Devils Stanley Cup Champion and Jersey Shore native, Jim Dowd, were in attendance to support the event.

“Freehold Raceway has had a longstanding association with both Freehold Area Open Door and Toys for Tots,” said Howard Bruno, General Manager of Freehold Raceway, before the PGC Fall Series began. “We are looking forward to supporting these worthwhile causes again this year. We are grateful to Peter Grandich for his sponsorship and coordination of these events.”

Freehold Raceway was established in 1853 and features live standardbred harness racing for trotters and pacers. It features a half-mile track and is the oldest harness racing track in the United States.
