Delray Beach, FL – The Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village featured seven qualifying races Saturday (March 16) over their one-mile oval with some fast harness racing miles. It was sunny and 80 degrees at post time.
The track also featured its new starting gate that was designed and built by farm manager Brandon Mills.
The very first race on card showed some speed as the lightly raced Reggie The Fourth (Huntsville) driver Matt Krueger cut fractions of :28.1, :57, 1:25.4 and then came home in :27 to win by one length in 1:54.1.
Having only made two unsuccessful starts as a two-year-old, Reggie The Fourth was in prime shape for trainer Travis Aleander. The three-year-old gelding is owned and was bred by the Fiddlerās Creek Stable of Naples, FL.
The fastest trotting mile was in the 6th race where Inaminute Hanover (Bar Hopping) and trainer Jake Huff in the sulky, was able to wire the field by one length in 1:59.4. A six-year-old gelding, Inaminute Hanover was a $143,980 winner last season.
The speed continued in the 7th and last race on the card as $1.5 million career winner Backstreet Shadow (Shadow Play) and driver Matt Krueger cut fractions of :28.2, :57, 1:25 and came home in just :29 seconds to stop the teletimer in 1:54.
Trained by Travis Alexander, Backstreet Shadow is coming off a super season last year where he won 11 times with earnings of $330,807. The nine-year-old gelding is owned by Robert Di Nozzi of Katonah, NY.
