Favorite goes down the pike at Pocono

Stars Over Dover (Dover Dan) was bet down as the race favorite and performed like one for harness racing driver Jim Pantaleano in the $15,000 feature trot Wednesday (Sept. 6) at Pocono Downs.

Starting from post seven in the 10th race, Pantaleano sent Stars Over Dover right out of the gate, and they had the lead with Freshgroundpepper (Tyler Buter) getting the two-hole trip to the opening quarter mile in :28.3.

Stars Over Dover continued to lead past the half mile in :57.1 and then Allsummerlong As (Matt Kakaley) came first-over from third but could not advance as they passed the three-quarters in 1:26.3.

Around the final turn and Stars Over Dover still held the field at bay and did so in the stretch, winning by two lengths in 1:55. Freshgroundpepper was second with Allsummerlong As third.

It was the fourth win of the year for Stars Over Dover. The three-year-old filly is trained by Eric Irving for Elite Harness Racing. She paid $4.20 to win.
