Morning Has Broken was parked out first-over from the half mile and still was able come on in the stretch to be victorious in the $30,000 feature harness racing pace Tuesday at Yonkers Raceway.
The sixth race was for $50,000 to $75,000 claiming mares and the race saw Feelin Red Hot (Joe Bongiorno) shoot to the early lead with Woodmere Skyroller (Jim Marohn, Jr.) taking the two-hole pocket trip as they sped by the opening quarter mile in :27.3.
Then it was the race favorite, Morning Has Broken, who started up first-over for driver Matt Kakaley as they passed the half mile marker in :56.4. Feelin Red Hot was not giving way as Morning Has Broken kept inching her way towards the pacesetter. They hit the three-quarters in 1:24.1.
As the top of the stretch both Feelin Red Hot and Morning Has Broken were just heads apart, but then Morning Has Broken pulled away in the stretch and then held off Woodmere Skyroller to win by one length in 1:53.1. Chuppah On (Jordan Stratton) was third.
