Favorite scratched from $656,000 Meadowlands Pace

Dan Patch Award-winner Louprint (Sweet Lou), the 7-5 morning-line harness racing favorite for Saturday’s $656,000 Meadowlands Pace for 3-year-olds, will miss the Grade 1 event and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks following an emergency procedure Monday to remove a testicle, co-owner Mark Weaver said.

Dr. Jen Smith performed the procedure after the issue was discovered Monday morning.

“They were able to get him into surgery right away and removed the testicle without any compromise of his intestines,” Weaver said. “The best case scenario is that he would miss a few weeks, but we’ll let his recovery determine the timeline. Hopefully, he will be racing in Lexington in August, but we won’t force anything.

“We’ve talked to many reproductive specialists, and every one of them has expressed that this should not impact his future as a stallion. Many other horses, Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds, have long successful stallion careers with just one testicle, servicing full books into their mid-20s.”

Louprint is unbeaten in five races this year, with his most recent triumph coming in the million-dollar Pepsi North America Cup on June 14 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. He has hit the board in all 15 career starts, winning 12 and earning $1.18 million for driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and trainer Ron Burke.

He was the Dan Patch Award winner for best 2-year-old male pacer in 2024.

A son of Sweet Lou-Rockin Racer, Louprint is owned by breeders Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, and Phil Collura, as well as Larry Karr.
