Trainer Chris Beaver harnessed the first two winners of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old harness racing trotting fillies on a pleasant, mildly humid Friday night (Aug. 13) at Scioto Downs.
Beaver watched as his Gabbys C Note trotted to a front-stepping 1:56.4 triumph for driver Brett Miller in the first $40,000 OSS division and after that he then returned to the winner’s circle in the second $40,000 OSS division as Caviar Roxie Due won easily in a leisurely 1:58.2.
Caviar Roxie Due is now three for three in the four-leg series, having won legs one and two in 1:58.4 and 1:58.2. Beaver owns the filly in partnership with Steve Zeehandelar, Tim Homan, and VIP Internet Stable.
The filly left the gate as the 4-5 favorite for driver Aaron Merriman, besting 9-1 What’s Up Cupcake (Tyler Smith), with 23-1 Lady Ruth (Dan Noble) garnering third-place honors.
GABBYS C NOTE REPLAY
Caviar Roxie Due, a daughter of Triumphant Caviar, sits atop the OSS standings with 153 points, 50 points ahead of stablemate Gabbys C Note, who is also a daughter of Triumphant Caviar. Owned by Beaver, Beaver, and Zeehandelar, Gabby’s C Note captured leg one in 1:58.1.
Finishing behind the 1-9 favorite was 18-1 Martysmagicmoment (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) with 18-1 Kirsi Dream (Mike Wilder) third.
CAVIAR ROXIE DUE REPLAY
Lady Camryn held on in late stretch to get her first career victory in the third $40,000 OSS contest for 2-year-old trotting fillies. The daughter by What The Hill was piloted by Dan Noble as the 4-1 choice, besting 4-5 favorite Sweet On Pete (Anthony MacDonald) by a head in 1:58.2, with 8-1 Blaze of Justice (Tyler Smith) third.
Owned by breeder Joyce McClelland, Lady Camryn is trained by VirgilĀ Morgan,Jr. and now has $33,625 in earnings.
LADY CAMRYN REPLAY
HotĀ Shot Tempress stormed to a decisive 1:53 triumph in the first of two $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies.
Aaron Merriman was behind the 3-5 favorite for trainer Kyle Ater and owner Ivy Holdings of Apple Creek, Ohio.
The homebred daughter of McArdle notched her second victory in this series, having won the second leg in 1:51.2. She easily bested 5-1 Dragon Lady (Chris Page), with 7-2 Spitting Image (Brett Miller) third.
HOT SHOT TEMPRESS REPLAY
Sea Silk kept her undefeated win streak in place, capturing the second $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for freshman pacing fillies.
Driven by Chris Page for trainer Ronnie Burke, the daughter of Downbytheseaside left the gate as the 3-5 favorite and held off the hard trying 3-1 Cape Cod Hanover (Mike Wilder) followed by 12-1 Mermaid By The Sea (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) 12-1.
Owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, Knox Services and Hatfield Stables, Sea Silk was bred by Steiner Stock Farm and now has five career victories and $160,000 in earnings.
