Leon Bailey and John MacDonald each took five harness racing horses to the winner’s circle at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 22).
The two leading drivers went at it last night, like it was a heavyweight fight. John MacDonald won the first three races of the night getting wins with Nanuet, Milleniums Girl, and Pondameri. Leon Bailey then countered winning races five, six, and eight with Mittnage A Trois, Lepanto, and Bet Big On Blue. MacDonald then won races 10 and 11 with Night Star, and Vodka. Bailey then won the featured 12th with Scrub Hanover and ended the night winning race 15 with Aces Or Bettor.
Scrub Hanover (Well Said, $7.40) charged late to capture the $7,500 featured pace.
Snap Call (John MacDonald) went to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. He slowed things down with a :29.3 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.0. He continued on the point to three-quarters in 1:25.4.
As they made the turn for home Major Leaguer (Jimmy Whittemore) popped the pocket and went all out after the leader. Scrub Hanover then came three-wide like he was wearing a propeller. He blew right on by to win easily in 1:53.1. Old Pal (Truman Gale) came up to finish second. Le Massif (Steeven Genois) was third best.
