Onward through the fog worked out for Dragon Roll and harness racing driver Tyler Buter as they were able to capture the $39,000 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway Thursday. A late fog rolled in at the track and visibility was tough following the field throughout most of the race.
The race favorite, Dragon Roll followed Machnhope (Scott Zeron) on the outside as both were battling with Cora Bella (Jordan Stratton) for control of the early lead. Machnhope cleared to the lead in :27.2, but Dragon Roll and Buter were able to roll right on by to take command.
After a half mile in :56.3, the fog had rolled in and there were no horses in sight as they reached the three-quarters in 1:25.2 and started down the stretch.
Coming to the finish, it was Dragon Roll still in front and winning by one length in 1:54.3. Machnhope was second with Lucky Artist A (Marcus Miller) third.
DRAGON ROLL REPLAY
It was the second straight win in three starts this year for Dragon Roll. The five-year-old mare by Roll With Joe, is owned and trained by Ricky Bucci of New York and paid $5.80 to win.
