A card of seven races was held Thursday (7/18) at the Jones County Fairground in Monticello, Iowa.  Two-year-old harness racing pacers looked to try their racing luck in race six.

Juliet Duz (Scott Smith) drew the two-hole but benefitted from the late scratch of stablemate Waspy Again to start from the rail.  When the gates folded, Juliet Duz quickly sprinted for the top, with Fun Freda (Adam Hauser) looking to take up position from the outside.

Pacing to the quarter in :31.1, Juliet Duz led the field to the half in 1:04 flat, with Fun Freda tucked nicely in the pocket.  Following the leader to the three-quarter-pole in 1:35.1, Fun Freda thought she might make a move but was quickly denied.

Juliet Duz rounded the final turn, charging towards the finish line.  As Romeo famously pondered “what light through yonder window breaks”, Juliet Duz was a glimmering flash, cruising down the lane.  Crossing the wire in 2:05.4, Juliet Duz captured the sixth straight win of her debut season.

Iowa harness racing, in conjunction with the Missouri Harness Horsemen’s Association, resumes on Sunday (7/21) at Kahoka, MO.  Post time is scheduled for 12:30pm CST.
