Iowa harness racing held the season opener today (5/26) at What Cheer. Excitement coursed throughout the barn area all the way to the grandstand as Iowa freshmen made their track debut and sophomores returned for their second season.
The highlight today belonged to the Free For All Pacers in race eight. As the field of six lined up behind the gate, Its A Marc’s World (Jason Ludwig) sprinted out to take the lead. Taking the field to the half in 58.4, Its A Marc’s World was unable to hold off a hard charging Red N Hotallover (Adam Hauser), with Greatest Honor (Royal Roland) following her cover.
Red N Hotallover held a short lead to the three-quarters, but Greatest Honor (Western Trademark) had her sights on the prize. Hitting the lane in full gear, Greatest Honor was up on the field by three lengths. Not looking back, it was all Greatest Honor as she crossed the wire, pacing in 2:00.4 for owners Royal and Barbara Roland.
Iowa harness racing resumes Saturday (6/1) at Humboldt, IA. Post time is scheduled for 12:30pm CST.
