LEXINGTON, KY— With preliminary three of the Kentucky Championship Series for pacing sophomores washed out last Tuesday (Aug. 31), the three-year-olds will join the harness racing trotting freshmen in Kentucky Championship Series competition on Sunday (Sept. 5) at The Red Mile.
The dashes for the pacing sophomores go as they were drawn for last Tuesday’s program. Sunday’s card opens with the single $40,000 division for pacing colts and geldings topped by morning-line favorite Goldie’s Legacy, who will try to best second-preliminary winner Komodo Beach from post 1 with Yannick Gingras driving for trainer Jeff Cullipher.
The $40,000 division for pacing fillies goes as Race 7 with So Irresistible (Always B Miki) topping the morning line following a runner-up finish to High Minded, who starts from the pylon post. Andrew McCarthy steers the early favorite from post 4 for trainer Noel Daley.
Kentucky Championship action for the trotting freshmen starts in Race 3 with the $40,000 fourth preliminary for colts and geldings. Double Deceiver (Cantab Hall) will try for three wins in the series when he starts from post 7 in rein to David Miller off a 1:52.4 score with a :26.2 kicker to catch his competition to the line.
The Carter Pinske trainee starts wide of Rebuff, runner-up in last week’s prelim, and Peter Haughton Memorial runner-up Classic Hill.
Selfie Queen (Muscle Hill) speeds into the $40,000 fourth preliminary for the trotting fillies as the even-money choice on the morning line following a 1:51.2 victory on Aug. 23. Yannick Gingras this time gets the call behind the Nancy Takter trainee from post 2 in the seven-horse contest that includes Eternal Lee, who ships south from Canada for trainer Julie Walker and driver Jean Bernard Renaud following a second-place finish in a $67,061 Champlain Stakes division on Aug. 26.
Because of the weather cancellation last Tuesday, Sunday’s card also includes three $20,000 Kentucky Commonwealth divisions for pacing sophomores – two for the colts and geldings and one for the fillies. These events coincide the regularly scheduled Kentucky Commonwealth divisions for trotting two-year-olds, with that contest drawing a total four divisions – two for the colts and geldings and two for the fillies. First-race post time for the 15-race card is 1 p.m. (EDT).
