Harness racing driver Austin Siegelman won four out of eleven races at Freehold Raceway on Friday (Dec. 22).
His first came in race five aboard Mahone Seelster (Muscle Mass) for trainer Chris Height. At even money, he captured the early lead from post three and continued to trot without facing any competition. He went on to win by more than eight lengths in the geldingās best mark of the year, 1:57.4.
Siegelman returned to the winners circle quickly. In race six he drove LA Magic (Kadabra) for Edwin Quevedo. He left from post two and battled for the lead from first āover. He cleared to the front after the first turn then went on to lead the rest of the way and successfully fend off pressure from outside. He trotted the mile in 1:59.1.
Race eight saw an upset thanks to Siegelman, who piloted Odds On Delta (Fear The Dragon) to victory at 7-1 from post two. The pair settled in fourth on the rail and continued to pace behind the early leaders who were all gapped out from each other as they reached the quarter-pole in :28.2. The field bunched up by the time they reached the half in :57.4. In the third turn, Siegelman took position second-over which is where he stayed as the field passed the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2. As they turned for home, Siegelman pulled three-wide and rocketed by them to win in 1:57.2 for trainer Mike Fiumenero.
In his last chance to knock it out of the park for a grand slam in the eleventh and final race of the day, Siegelman came through with a win behind 5-2 Goinroundncircles (Cam`s Card Shark) for owner/trainer Thomas OāLail. He captured the early lead from post three and from there just let the mare do just like her name, and went round the Freehold half-mile circle two times without facing much pressure from her opposition until she was the first to cross the wire.
Freehold Raceway returns with eleven more races on Saturday (Dec. 23) starting at 12:30pm.
