LEXINGTON, KY— The harness racing pacing two-year-olds return to The Red Mile on Monday (Sept. 6) for their fourth round of the Kentucky Championship Series, with one dash scheduled each for the colts and geldings and the fillies.
Fillies compete prior to the pari-mutuel card in a three-horse contest for $40,000. The field includes Sloopy, a first-round winner starting from the pylon post with Yannick Gingras driving for trainer Ron Burke, and a pair of Tony Alagna pupils in Dont Fence Me In – a second-round winner – and Captains Princess. Dexter Dunn drives Dont Fence Me In from post 2 and Andrew McCarthy steers Captains Princess from post 3.
Betting on Monday starts with the $40,000 Kentucky Championship split for the colts and geldings, led by the pair of Caviart Camden and Pebble Beach. Pebble Beach rode a three-race win streak coming into the third round of the series on Aug. 24, but was outsprinted by Caviart Camden to the finish of the third round in a world-record mile of 1:48.3. The duo face off again with Caviart Camden starting from post 2, in rein to Yannick Gingras for trainer Tony Alagna, and Pebble Beach scoring from post 3 with Todd McCarthy in behind for conditioner Noel Daley.
Monday’s card also features three $20,000 divisions of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series – two for the fillies and one for the colts and geldings. The non-betting race goes at 12:45 p.m. (EDT) while the pari-mutuel card starts at 1 p.m. (EDT).
