Penzance Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere) fought hard late and won the $20,000 Winner’s Over/ Select Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Thursday (Jan. 18) night.
Dreaming of Lou sprinted quickly out of the gate and forced Sweet Angel Boy to retreat to the pocket, approaching the quarter pole. The 1/2 betting favorite, Penzance Hanover, was parked from post seven but cleared to the lead, passing the opening quarter in :27 flat.
Penzance Hanover continued on an uncontested lead reaching the half in :55.1 (:28.1). Jack’s Shadow N was first to pull to the outside and Heinikin Bythebay followed second over pacing up the backstretch and into the chilly Dover air.
Penzance Hanover continued on the engine reaching the three quarters in 1:23.2 pacing an identical :28.1 quarter as the half.
At the top of the stretch, Jack’s Shadow N began to tire. Heinikin Bythebay circled three wide and Business Director fired up four wide from the back of the pack. Dreaming Of Lou appeared to be the only threat from the pocket.
