Energetic Hanover (Captaintreacherous) circled the harness racing field late and stormed home to win the $19,000 feature pace at Bally’s Dover on a balmy Thursday (March 14) night.
38-1 longshot Baba O’Reily, left alertly from the start of the race and led the field of quality pacers toward the opening quarter in a robust :26.3.
Belmont Royale N and Iwannabewithyou advanced early off the pylons past the quarter. They battled as a team reaching the half in a vicious :53.4, a :27.1 quarter.
Belmont Royale N continued to give Iwannabewithyou, the betting favorite, no respect. He remained parked out down the backstretch.
Energetic Hanover and driver George Napolitano, Jr. gladly accepted the second over trip behind Belmont Royale N. Muskateer Hanover joined the outer flow third over on the rim. Belmont Royale N continued, battle worn, but reached the three quarters in 1:21.1, a :27.2 quarter.
Energetic Hanover sensing that Belmont Royale N had enough, fanned three wide at the top of the stretch, Muskateer Hanover followed that move and circled four wide. Baba O’Riley, the early pace setter, watched all the action from the pocket and stormed home along the pylons.
Energetic Hanover cleared the lead late in the stretch and won by a neck in 1:49.4. He paid $10.40 for the win.
