Harness racing driver Victor Kirby and Mississippi Storm (Cantab Hall) took advantage of an early miscue at the start of the 12th race by Northern Express and went on to win the $25,000 Open Trot Tuesday (Nov. 1) at Ballyās Dover Downs.
Kirby cut the mile, posting the opening quarter in 27.1.Ā Victor then put the field to sleep crawling to the half in 57.1, a 30 second quarter. The 3/4 marker was reached in 1:25.3 (28.2).
Crystal Fashion, (Tim Tetrick) the 3/5 betting favorite, sat the pocket but was unable to gain ground on the leader late.
Star Razor (Corey Callahan) moved 1st up nearing the Ā¾ pole and Hatikvah (Wolfenden) followed cover on the rim.Ā However, both were also unable to gain ground in the stretch.
Mississippi Storm won by 1 Ā½ lengths and trotted the mile in 1:53.3.Ā The last half was 56.3 and the last quarter in 28 seconds flat.

Mississippi Storm is trained by Tom Fanning and owned by Joseph E. Smith of Florida.Ā He paid $7.40 to win.
Crystal Fashion finished a frustrating 2nd for driver Tim Tetrick.Ā Chuck C Crissman Jr trained.Ā Hatikvah was 3rd for trainer Chris Scicluna and driver Ross Wolfenden.
Tim Tetrick had 4 wins on the night.
The Mares Open Pace is in the spotlight on Wednesday night at Bally’s Dover.Ā Oakwoodanabella Ir and Majorica N will trade blows.
On Thursday Ballys Dover will host four divisions of the Matron Stakes for two year olds.
