The Meadows has twilight racing, wiener dogs & more

WASHINGTON, PA, May 24, 2023 — Friday brings the initial twilight harness racing card (first post 5:10 PM) of the spring/summer season to Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, and it also marks the kickoff of the Memorial Day Weekend. Accordingly, The Meadows and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association (MSOA) have planned a festive evening that features wiener dog races and Family Fun Night.

A total of 36 wiener dogs are scheduled to compete in three eliminations following Meadows races 3, 4 and 5, with the top four in each elim returning for the final following race 7. Each elim winner will earn a doggie toy while their connections will receive Meadows sports betting vouchers.

The overall champion wins a Grand Prize Doggie Basket from Pet Works Tanger as well as a $100 Pet Works gift card, and the champion’s humans win a $100 Meadows Dining Certificate.

For the event, The Meadows is partnering with the Washington Area Humane Society, which will provide giveaways throughout the competition.

As part of Family Fun Night, fans can enjoy Mike the Balloon Guy, a face painter and an airbrush tattoo artist. The MSOA also will offer paddock tours, starting gate rides, winners’ circle pictures and prize drawings. (Sign up at the MSOA table.)

Friday also kicks off the weekend-long Meadows Food Truck Festival. In deference to the food trucks, there will be no live racing Saturday.
